MAY 2011 NEWSLETTER FROM THE NUSSKNACKER HAUS...

This month we show some of the special pieces we have at the Nussknacker Haus.  Many of these were made just for us, others have very limited in availability in the U.S.

JUNGHANEL MARINE…The first Marine carved by Lothar Junghanel of Germany was done many years ago specifically for my husband George who served in the Marine Corps during World War II.  We took a picture of a Marine in full dress to Lothar, and he carved one for George.  This received so much attention, that we asked for more to be made for the collectors.  Since this first one, Lothar’s son Hanno, using the lathe and turning rather than carving, proceeded to make Marines as well as other military figures.  Although Hanno does the basic body on the lathe, he uses many accessories of his father’s designs.  Since Lothar is now officially retired, the hand carved Marines are limited in quanity.  Hand Carved Lothar Marine, no. LJMAR sells for $235.00, Turned Hanno Junghanel Marine, no. HJMAR sells for $89.00

MINIATURES FROM THE ERZGEBIRGE…The Nutcracker in Walnut Shell item no. GFTC23 was made for us in the Erzgebirge, and we have just a few left of both red and blue.  These are actual nutcrackers that open at the mouth, carved and fitted into a walnut shell.  They sell for $49.50.  We have several other 1” nutcrackers made in Olbernhau, the favorite being the Miniature King item GFTC10, and selling for $18.95.  Although not shown on the web, the Nussknacker Haus has a large variety of miniatures from the Erzgebirge, including Wendt and Kuhn, Flade, and Blank.

KMSA_tmbnKMKI_tmbn 2KMGU_tmbn 2KMFI_tmbn 2KMBU_tmbn 2KLAUS MERTENS NUTCRACKERS ….We found Klaus Mertens working in a small workshop in his home in Seiffen, and purchased his wonderful 30” nutcrackers for the store.  They are turned on the lathe, and stained that allows the grain of the wood to show through. We have only the Buccaneer KMBU, Fireman KMFI, Guard KMGU, King KMKI and Santa KMSA left.  If you are looking for an exceptional nutcracker, we suggest one of these.

U100A_tmbn 2SHRINER NUTCRACKER….We asked Christian Ulbtricht to create a special  Shriner Nutcracker no. U100A for us and for which we would give part of the proceeds to the Shrine Children’s Hospital.  We are pleased to report that we have given over $6,000 to this wonderful work.  Priced at $269.00.  $100.00 is to go to the Shrine Children’s Hospital, and to get your tax deductible donation, please make out a check to the hospital.  The rest is to be paid to the Nussknacker Haus, but no discount on this amount, please.

NUTCRACKER PLACEMATS.  We love these Nutcracker Placemats GFTC16.  In fact, we liked them so much we purchased the entire remaining stock from Heritage so our customers would be able to get them.  Priced at $7.95 each.  The design is not embroidered, but printed, and they make for a very festive table.
